How to book cheaper
- Book months ahead: the earlier the cheaper, and in the last week before departure you usually pay the most
- Compare the four operators for the same date, the difference can be 100 euros per single crossing
- Choose a seat instead of a cabin on the day sailing, the cabin is most expensive on the night ferry
- Travel midweek and outside July and August if you can
- Book with the operator itself or through a known partner such as Direct Ferries, not at roadside sales points

What the Almería-Nador ferry costs
A single crossing with a car and two people starts at around 214 euros with Baleària, 225 euros with GNV and 314 euros with Naviera Armas; from newcomer AML we have no starting price yet. A return costs double minus a small return discount: count on 420 to 517 euros. Those are prices outside the summer, without a cabin, price level December 2025; in July and August they rise sharply. A cabin on the night ferry costs 70 to 90 euros extra.
Foot passengers are much cheaper off: a single crossing without a car starts at around 50 euros. With a camper or a car with a trailer you pay more, and not every operator takes campers on every sailing.
You only see the final price when booking: it depends on the date, the number of people, your vehicle and the cabin. So always compare for your own travel date, in one go for all four.

The cost of getting to Almería
The ferry is only part of the bill. From the UK and Ireland the Biscay ferry to Bilbao or Santander is the expensive but restful option: a day and a half at sea, then 930 to 1,000 kilometres of mostly toll-free Spanish motorway. Via the Channel the crossing is cheap but the drive is about 2,100 kilometres with French motorway tolls, fuel for two long days and at least one hotel night. On the way back the night ferry to Almería saves you the hotel: you sleep on board and start driving in the morning.
In Spain most motorways are toll-free nowadays; toll roads remain mainly in Catalonia and the Basque Country. In Morocco fuel is cheaper than in Spain, and toll applies only on the motorway between Oujda and Fez.
With a camper or motorhome to Morocco
Almería is popular with motorhome travellers from the UK, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands, especially in winter when Morocco is the destination for a few months of sun. All four operators take motorhomes; you pay by length and height, so give the exact measurements when booking. Declare gas bottles and LPG systems when booking and at check-in and close the valves during the crossing; the exact rules differ per operator.
In the port of Almería there is free 24-hour parking for motorhomes at the Muelle de Levante, with security and toilets nearby. If you arrive a day early, you wait there. The vehicle rules for Morocco, from the green card to the temporary import, are on the customs page.
When it is expensive and when it is cheap
Prices follow the summer traffic: in winter and early spring they are lowest, and from mid-June to mid-September, during the Operación Paso del Estrecho, they rise sharply. In those weeks the ships are full of families travelling to Morocco and back. Book weeks to months ahead then; the last places are the most expensive.
The moment of booking counts too: the earlier you book, the cheaper, and in the last week before departure you usually pay the most. Once we have measured prices on fixed dates, the figures will appear here.
What is in the price
The basic price covers the crossing for the car and the people you enter, with a place in the lounge. A reserved seat, a shared cabin, an inside cabin or a cabin with a sea view cost extra. Food and drink on board you pay for separately. Port taxes and surcharges are normally already in the price the operator shows; check that at checkout.
Children and babies usually travel at a discount, pets for a fee and in a kennel or in your car, depending on the operator. Put everything that differs from “two adults and a car” straight into the booking, then there are no surprises at check-in.
Frequently asked questions about prices
What does a ticket cost for a car with four people?
More than the starting price for two, because every extra passenger pays; how much exactly depends on the operator, the date and the cabin. In July and August prices rise sharply. Booking early saves the most; compare for your date in the booking module.
Is it cheaper to book with the operator or through Direct Ferries?
The price is usually the same. Through Direct Ferries you compare the operators in one go; afterwards you simply pay the operator. We advise against roadside sales points near the port.
Can I change or cancel a ticket?
That depends on the fare. Flexible fares are dearer but allow changes, the cheapest fares often do not. Read the conditions before you pay.
Do I need a cabin?
On the night ferry a cabin is pleasant with children or after a long drive, but it is not compulsory: a seat or a place in the lounge works too. On the day sailing you do not need a cabin.
